Elementor AI Features Deep Dive 2026: What Actually Works and What’s Still Marketing

What Elementor AI ships in 2026

The AI panel now offers seven capabilities: text generation, text-to-image, background removal, image variations, custom CSS, custom code, and layout/container generation. They’re metered by credit; a “Pro” bundle sits on top of Elementor Pro pricing.

I’ve used every one of these on paying client work in the last 90 days. Here’s what earns its credit and what doesn’t.

The four that earn their credit

1. Custom CSS generation

Prompt: “hover state, 300ms ease-out, lift 4px, shadow expands.” You get valid CSS pasted into the widget’s Custom CSS field. Saves 30 seconds and, more importantly, gets non-CSS designers unstuck. This is the feature I use daily.

2. Custom code snippets (Pro Code widget)

Small vanilla JS tasks: intersection observers, scroll-linked animations, form field validation. Output is usually correct on the first pass and correctly scoped to the widget. Do not use it for anything that talks to the database or wp-admin — it’ll happily generate PHP that no one should ship.

3. Background removal

Genuinely good in 2026. Comparable to remove.bg on human subjects, slightly worse on hair against complex backgrounds. Saves the Photoshop round-trip.

4. Text rewrite for tone

Not “write me a landing page” — “rewrite this paragraph for a formal insurance audience.” Constrained rewrites are where the text tool works. Open generation still sounds like every other AI landing page.

The three that don’t

5. Layout / container generation

Sounds magical, ships generic. The layouts are structurally fine but visually indistinguishable from the Elementor template library. You’ll rebuild 70% of it. Use the template library directly and skip the credits.

6. Text-to-image

Behind Midjourney v7 and Ideogram 3.0 on the same prompts. Fine for placeholders, not for final hero images. If you care about brand consistency, use a dedicated tool and upload the result.

7. Image variations

Occasionally useful for testing alt hero images, but the model tends to shift subject, palette, and mood in ways that break brand guidelines. Rarely worth the credits.

Cost math

The Pro AI bundle in 2026 runs about the equivalent of ~2000 mid-tier credit actions per month. Custom CSS burns credits fastest for me because I use it constantly. Text rewrites are cheapest per action. Text-to-image is by far the most expensive — every failed generation still costs.

Where Elementor AI fits vs. a general LLM

The Elementor AI panel is worth its cost for one reason: the output lands in the correct widget field with the correct scoping. When I ask Claude in a separate tab for the same CSS, I have to copy, paste, and re-check selectors. In-context generation is the real feature. The models underneath are commoditized.

My actual workflow

Custom CSS + JS: Elementor AI
Copy: Claude in a separate tab with brand voice + retrieval, paste into widget
Hero images: Midjourney or a photographer
Layouts: Elementor template library or a hand-built kit
Background removal: Elementor AI (won it fair and square)

Recommendation

Buy the AI bundle if you’re building 3+ sites per month and hate leaving the editor. Skip it if you’re a solo dev already paying for Claude, ChatGPT, and Midjourney — the overlap isn’t worth another line item.

Watch this space

Elementor’s roadmap for late 2026 hints at design-token-aware layout generation. If they ship it — layouts that respect your kit’s global colors, spacing, and typography instead of ignoring them — feature #5 flips from “skip” to “essential.” I’ll update this post when it lands.
